FANTASCICON THE RESURRECTION!
After a lengthy conversation with Bob, our party will be more than just a party. It will be a Mini-Convention that Bob will graciously be hosting, much like when he hosted Deep South Con, several years ago. Just think, you will be getting two conventions for the price of one. This, in no way means that FantaSciCon will be coming back as a fully fledged convention. However we will be doing more than just movies and a party. The first change is instead of doing a double feature on Friday night we will be doing a Triple Feature. The first feature will be “Starship Troopers” at dusk. I read the book, by Robert Heinlein, before most of you were born. I think that was one of the deciding factors for my enlisting in the Air Force when I turned 18, in 1971. Our second feature will be “Wing Commander”. I still have my copy of “Wing Commander for Windows 95” on CDs. The third and final feature, for this year, will be “Guardians of the Galaxy”. I am presently coming up with some events and goodies to do in the pavilion during the daylight hours, for this year. If anyone would like to do some Gaming, in the pavilion, shoot me an email to email@example.com and we will try to accommodate you. Just let me know the games you would like to run and an approximate time.
Catch the Wind (weather permitting)
Buy or Build a kite and join me Saturday afternoon on that beautiful stretch of grass in front of the main hall to try and catch the wind. Any kite is acceptable. I have always preferred the common diamond shaped ones. It’s always more fun to build our own.
I will be raffling off Yoda’s cane that I found a long time ago on a planet far far away. I was always going to put it in the Charity Auction, but had misplaced it and thought I had lost it, however, I recently found it. The drawing will be Saturday evening during the party.
Hopefully. more events coming soon.
I am really looking forward to seeing everyone, again, after being off the radar for six years.
See you soon
After a 6 year sojourn Dutch and Mickey will be returning to OutsideCon to host the Pavilion festivities for the weekend. They will be doing The Late Night Double Feature Picture Show on Friday night, beginning at dusk. The movies, at this time, will be two all time favorites, “ Guardians of the Galaxy” and the 1981 Animated Head Trip “Heavy Metal”. Both with fantastic sound tracks.
Saturday night will feature the usual recorded music until the Mollys and guests show up to take over the entertainment for the evening. The evening festivities will begin after the Saturday evening meal.
So Robert Embler posted on his page that the event would only cost 40 for the weekend and 20 for tent dwellers. Again he requests payments via check ahead of time with the number of your prior years cabin if applicable.
Please click the contact button (below) for direct email with any questions.
Alternative to Bob, there is a Facebook page for Outsidecon where questions can be fielded in a more timely manner as Bob is. as always, working for a living. It takes a village and so if you can, help in ways that can be conceived of. We all want to have a good time!
Welcome back kids! Friday come around 3pm with the items on the suggested items (WHAT TO BRING) page and get set up with a cabin. Staffers get first pick of course. Stay with us til noon on Sunday. Bring kids, limited animals (see bob if you plan to overload us with pet-a-geddon). Games are often on hand but bring your favorites. Party hearty with your usual favorites Friday and Saturday nights. Dont forget to join us for the group photos on Saturday before dinner with the whole gang to keep the memory alive. We'll miss you, we always do.
Smiles are always welcome, but if you need hugs, we have those too.
CDC guidance is preferred shots but y'all are the adults in your lives. We will be outside, so make good choices.
Remember the weather can be either hot or cold so prepare for either. So excited to see you all soon!!!
SAdly cancelled after 33 years
I was searching for lists to help me remember what to bring.
This site had a few helpful hints.
See y'all real soon!
Well, it was bound to happen. One year the rule of 2nd full weekend would meet an exception to the rule... OutsideCon 31 will take place on the 1st full weekend or 9/7 thru 9/9. Please pardon our error. From now on, please mark calendar as "the weekend that follows DragonCon" or "The weekend after Labor Day." Its the same thing.
So Sunday was rough, but so was Monday morning. Checkout was by 10 am, which was not what I was expecting. Bob used a mop to personally clean out the new bathrooms near the field house and that was after he mopped the kitchen 2 or 3x.
We had a couple of stragglers, but they were armed with information, so I presume they made their way out of there on time. I left by 9:30 or so and made it home eventually to nap the day away, and prepare for the regular routine-Kids, job, life.
Something Bob said which we should note is that there were smoke-like odors inside a cabin area. We will not ask Bob what kind of smoke it was, but I will say, please, INSIDE the cabins, no smoking. We need not have the park crew come down on us.
Other than that, I'd say that the food, the company, the entertainment, the usual was good. Thanks for making this year a success and memorable.
Wow, its a countdown now. After the revelry of DragonCon that some have or their Labor Day weekends, it will be good to have some down time. There is not grand meal Thursday night but some of us do head that way to enjoy each other's company. Friday night is always soup night with a grand bowl of Chili or, if you prefer this is always an alternate. Plus deserts and drinks.
Saturday night is what those who have had exposure to the SCA call Feast night where they close the kitchen doors and a line forms of all the people who are hungry. Entertainment (this year there will be fun and games, as usual, as I will do special fun this 30th year) and Awards occur in the middle of the food, after most have gone for their 1st choices.
Sunday night if you are a lingerer and stay with some of us, then you can enjoy helping in the clean up. IF you clean up with the rest of us (and only IF you have) then you can enjoy the dead-dog party, wherein we go to eat with Robert at some local restaurant. (Dickson is a stone's throw away).
Please be safe getting there (we want to see you arrive alive) and be safe going back!
I personally look forward to seeing you all when you come.
P.s. 30th year deserves a little swag... (waggles eyebrows) (first 150 customers) (Must buy membership to be eligible)
Dutch Stacy, friend of Robert Embler for years kept OutsideCon's website going. He turned over the keys to the kingdom as of December and look at us slackers. :) Well, I finally got this part going and not without considerable help from all of you. I am still getting new pics by the hour and Bob admits to having quite a few legacy photos he can share but only shared about 20 for this first go.
Dutch has for years given us two main events at the large pavilion and nominally it was in support of both Hallowcon (now headed by Joe McKeel) and FantisciCon. The Late Night Double Feature Picture Show, AND The music Party with the Molly's playing their hearts out.
IF Dutch and Mickey attend this year it will be as honored guests who are just out to have a good time and relax. If you see them, pat them on the back. Tell 'em thanks from all of us.
